- 1 pound floor andouille sausage
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 pink bell pepper, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
For the Sloppy Joe Sauce:
- 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
- 1 can (15 ounces) tomato paste
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
For serving:
- Hamburger buns
- Optional: shredded cheddar cheese, chopped green onions, and sour cream
Instructions
To make the sloppy joe filling:
1. In a big skillet over medium warmth, brown the Andouille sausage until cooked through. Drain off any excess grease.
2. Add the onion and bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir within the garlic and cook dinner for 1 minute more.
3. Pour in the tomato sauce, water, sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and seasoning. Bring to a simmer and cook dinner, stirring sometimes, for 20 minutes, or till the sauce has thickened.
